Background

David is a seasoned Director with a major focus on Business Development, possessing  significant experience in sales, marketing and product development. 

The formative years of his career were spent with R.R. Donnelley the world’s largest print group.

Responsibilities included selling supply chain management solutions to hardware and software companies utilizing Donnelley facilities around Europe. Services included technical writing, localization, print, digital print, media replication and fulfillment. Clients included Sun Microsystems, Aldus, Fujitsu/ICL, America on Line and the Software Publishing Corporation. 

In 1998 joined AGI in Birmingham then part of the Tinsley Robor group as Business Development Director. The remit of the Birmingham site was to produce ‘special packaging’ for CDs to the media industry focusing initially on the music publishers and Internet Service Providers. The role involved responsibility for the strategic direction of the fulfilment unit, and for developing sales in tandem with the sales team in the fast developing DVD market.     

In 2003 he was promoted to Director of Marketing and Product Development for AGI UK, the role was based in Hammersmith and was part of the leadership team for the group. This involved managing a diverse team of direct reports in sales, marketing communications and structural design. The sales team focused on the games and replicator sectors, and he was responsible for drawing up strategy bringing focus away from standard commodity print lines to focus on the group’s wider product offering. 

He also had responsibility for product development, running the team to introduce new platforms, and product line extensions to the market leading Digipak and Digistak ranges, including taking cost out and incorporating retail security systems. He managed internal resource and external design agencies, and worked through intellectual property issues to bring these products to market. He also introduced focus group research tests for AGI’s special packaging and competitor’s products, to provide consumer insight to feed into the product development process.  

In 2008 transferred to the parent company MWV to become European Business Development Director for the innovative Natralock product line, a replacement for plastic clamshells. 

As part of the global leadership team developed European sales strategy by identifying key accounts and allocating resource appropriately. In a complex supply chain coordinated bids with MWV Chinese and USA plants to offer global supply solutions for European brand leaders in addition to using local plants. 

MWV converted the storage media market to the Natralock format winning business across Europe with SanDisk, Micron, Verbatim, PNY and Dexxon. He also worked with European fulfillment houses to supply parts for the Procter and Gamble Cash and Carry promotional business and for the Lego Chima release in 2013.    

In parallel he introduced a licensee program working with the MWV Packaging Resources Group to sell board to third party printers in the UK and France, to supplement MWVs own facilities
