This huge condemnation of the effectiveness of King Charles 1 had a rather dramatic ending as we all know.

I don’t believe for one minute that the same horror story could occur in your business. You will not pay the ultimate price but what do your employees think of you? You may have started the business, originated the product and/ or service and have much (naturally) to be proud of but what have you done LATELY to ensure that your business continues to leave competition well behind and to change your business to reflect the huge impact of digital disruption in every market.

Be honest, do you?

  • Ensure that all staff know what role they play in the Company and how that helps achieve overall business goals
  • Keep all staff up to date with how the business is performing and what can be done to improve things and what they can do
  • Let them have a say in what’s wrong and importantly, what they feel can be done about it
  • Empower them with clearly defined job functions and responsibilities, allow them to make mistakes and learn from them
  • Delegate key tasks so everything doesn’t stop at your door
  • Embrace the skills that the Millennial employee can offer your business and allow them to show what they can do
  • Allow them to think creatively and generate new ideas and give them the forum to air them

Not doing all or any of the above is the classic symptom of the owner/ manager with tentacles all over the business, micro-managing and (in their mind) ‘keeping control’.

In reality, by behaving like this you will not attract/ retain good people, will miss out on lots of new/ excellent ideas and will definitely fall behind the industry leaders in your sector.

Your knowledge, skills and experience are great assets and you are not ‘washed up’ yet. If you recognise any of the above traits in what you are doing, make the changes necessary and tap into the full potential of your people and business now.
