SEO and Social Media
Why is SEO and Social Media important for my business?
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Social Media have become part of the everyday vocabulary after a rapid growth over the last two years. So where have these terms suddenly come from?
SEO and Social Media now represent the future of internet marketing alongside Public Relations. Especially moreso today because of the rapid rise and influence of the internet on our buying and purchasing behaviour. These two disciplines deal with how your customers find you and are perceiving you and are single-handedly the biggest influencers on your online presence. For many business owners, the words SEO and Social Media trigger a panic attack. Why? More often than not it is because they do not understand them or how it works. Naturally, those things you do not understand, you fear. But in reality, SEO and Social Media are not difficult, but simply need constant time and attention. With the internet now being the first port of call for many customers, these two terms are a must for business owners to rapidly come to terms with.
What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
Search Engine Optimisation or SEO as it is more commonly known, is all about priming your website to make sure your customers are finding you when they search for you or a particular product on Google. For example, if you wanted to find a builder in your home city, you would naturally go to Google and type "builder in home city". Or if you wanted to be more specific and you had a budget in mind you may even put "cheap builder in home city." So did you ever wonder why certain businesses come up in the first page of the searches? That is because the website has been optimised for those keywords you tapped into Google –hence the term Search Engine Optimisation. SEO is therefore the practice of getting your website to become visible in the search engines so that your customers find you.
Social Media – what, how and why?
The best form of recommendation or an endorsement of any product or brand is via word of mouth – particularly from people you trust whether they be friends or relatives. In today's market, the internet is the fastest place to find advice or tips about any business or product. A few years ago, Facebook was born which totally changed the way people interact on the web. The coming of Facebook evolved into the birth of social networking. Pre-Facebook, other social networking sites did exist but Facebook set a new benchmark. Social networking saw large swathes of online users create profiles on sites such as Facebook and build their own network of friends. Consequently, over time this networking evolved into businesses using their presence on the site to communicate with their followers. Social Media was born. Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Linked In are now a must for a businesses to have a presence on. The fact that almost every person has a Facebook/Twitter profile coupled with how you can grow demand for your businesses through rapid and exponential growth in fans following you means that Social Media is now an absolute must for your business, whether large or small.
